Course Objectives

First Aid skills can be the difference between life and death for a workmate, family member, a stranger on the street, or even yourself. Whether you need it for your workplace, your club, in another setting or would just like peace of mind.

First Aid is not just a useful skill, it could also help save a life and minimise the impact of injuries.

Our comprehensive course will provide you the knowledge, skills and confidence to help an ill or injured person until emergency help arrives. You will learn the DRSABCD action plan as well as resuscitation (Including defibrillation), asthma, anaphylaxis and the management of various injuries and illnesses

This unit is a requirement for security officers working in the security industry, under the Security and Related Activities (Control) Act 1996, as stated by Police Security Licensing Branch of Western Australia.

Content

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

The First Aid unit, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, is nationally accredited providing participants with the qualification to be a First Aid representative in many workplaces and other required situations. The course we deliver is highly practical and focused on real Safety Scenarios that you can put in to practice.

This unit was also previously known as Apply First Aid HLTFA311A, Senior First Aid, Apply First Aid HLTFA301B, Apply First Aid HLTFA301C.

Designed For

The target audience for this UoC is those who are required to have first aid training as part of their workplace and members of the public who want training in first aid.

Those either undertaking training to enter the security industry or those currently employed within the security industry who are required to renew or update their first aid qualification.

Career Outcomes

This will be suited to the following job roles:

Workplace first aid officer,

Anyone currently employed or seeking employment within the Australian security industry

Refresher training in CPR should be undertaken annually and full first aid qualifications should be renewed every three years.

Suggested pathways for further study after completion of this qualification include:

  • HLTAID005 Provide first aid in remote situations,

Course Prerequisites

  • Must live in and have a Western Australian residential address.
  • Applicants must demonstrate good language, literacy and numeracy required at this level. A LLN assessment may be conducted at pre-enrolment to assess whether the applicant requires LLN support for this training.
  • Participants may choose to undertake an LLN assessment with one of our qualified assessors prior to committing to their enrolment in this qualification.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills are also required for entry into this qualification.
  • 100 points of identification.

USI Number Requirements:

All students doing nationally recognised training from January 1, 2018 need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). For more details and to create a USI go to the Government USI site here.

How Is The Course Delivered?

Delivery will be conducted over one eight hour day. The program may allow for some flexibility with time and include suggested work activities which can be conducted on-site, or in a simulated work situation if needed; this will be done in consultation with stakeholders prior to commencement.

You will have access to our highly qualified industry experienced Trainer who can provide you with guidance to assist you with completion timeframes for each unit to suit your study goals! You also have access to the Trainer throughout your study period to answer any questions you may have or help you overcome any stumbling blocks you may encounter.

Course Structure

The course is a combined delivery structure and comprises a pre-course online component followed by our 1 day in-class or 2 evenings in-class practical course. The pre-study consists of multiple-choice questions which can be done on paper or online.

Pre-study takes on average 3-5 hours. 95% of students prefer the online method (as opposed to attending another day) as it is convenient and cost-effective

The course is presented via a combination of structured tutorials, workshops, case studies, video, practical assignments and workplace application. Individual and group work activities and assessment activities are conducted throughout the course.

All trainers and assessors are recognised industry experts, holding relevant experience and training qualifications. They include security industry specialists, former serving police officers, military personnel and emergency response and medical specialists.

Assessment

To achieve a nationally-recognised qualification, participants are required to complete the pre-course assessment, practical assessment and written assessments. Assessment details will be provided with course materials.

A Statement of Attainment of HLAID011 Provide first aid will be issued following successful completion of this course and can be used to seek credit transfer towards achieving an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning – RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning is available to persons who have prior experience in the construction industry, have held a construction card from issued previously or from another Australian State.

Assessment is conducted via a detailed portfolio of evidence, workbook, questions and written scenarios to support your claim for RPL. Further information about the RPL process will be explained prior to enrolment with any of our training assessors. Where you and your Impact assessor can identify if there are any requirements for further training, you may choose to do this through the completion of individual units (at an additional fee).

Cancellation Policy

We are unable to refund monies for students who do not turn up for classes or decide at a later date after booking that they do not want to attend. Changes to class times are allowed, but not within 48 hours of the class commencing.
