Course Objectives

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply knowledge, practical skills and experience in leadership and management across a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

Individuals at this level display initiative and judgement in planning, organising, implementing and monitoring their own workload and the workload of others. They use communication skills to support individuals and teams to meet organisational or enterprise requirements.

They plan, design, apply and evaluate solutions to unpredictable problems, and identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources.

As well as assuming responsibility for their own performance, individuals at this level provide leadership, guidance and support to others. They also have some responsibility for organising and monitoring the output of their team.

They apply solutions to a defined range of predictable and unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.

Content

The Diploma of Leadership and Management course will prepare you for a role that requires providing leadership and management to teams across different industries and workplaces. You will be equipped with skills and knowledge that will help you motivate and manage groups of people and develop and implement plans.

During this course, you will learn how to manage operational plans, develop and use emotional intelligence, and lead and manage workplace relationships. The course will also teach you how to evaluate marketing opportunities, manage people performance, and support recruitment, selection and induction of staff.

Those with a good understanding of leadership and management; or those persons who want to extend their knowledge and experience in the field of leadership in the context of their current employment or to improve future employment opportunities through formal qualifications.

This qualification is about providing the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to undertake job roles such as Managers and Supervisors. This also relates to experienced Managers and Supervisors with Qualifications and skills obtained through other sources of employment or training; such as the Police Force, Corrections and Defence. They may choose to formalise their experience by attaining this Qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning or Current Competency.

Pathways into the qualification:

  • BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management,
  • BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, or
  • with vocational experience in a supervisory role but no formal qualification

Suggested pathways for further study after completion of this qualification include:

  • BSB50615 Diploma of Human Resources Management;
  • BSB50215 Diploma of Business; or
  • BSB61015 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management

Prerequisites

  • Must live in and have a Western Australian residential address.
  • Applicants must demonstrate good language, literacy and numeracy required at this level. A LLN assessment may be conducted at pre-enrolment to assess whether the applicant requires LLN support for this training
  • Participants may choose to undertake an LLN assessment with one of our qualified assessors prior to committing to their enrolment in this qualification
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills are also required for entry into this qualification.
  • 100 points of identification
  • Recommended to have completed a Certificate III in a similar qualification with leadership units of competency.

How Is The Course Delivered?

The course will be delivered over a minimum of 16 weeks, with class attendance of 16 days, each with 8 hours of face to face delivery.

An initial 16 days of classroom attendance is required to commence the course; this is for those who are not seeking to RPL any units of competency; this is to deliver the initial course content. There is a requirement for students to undertake unsupervised learning in developing the Operational Management plan and ensure that supervised hours are being met.

The concept of this course is to confirm the experience, skills and knowledge of learners, whilst using assessment tools to provide evidence of that experience. The information and assessments provided will build on their current knowledge and skills to demonstrate competency in this training package.

We acknowledge that not all information will be retained immediately and therefore the workplace project is required to be submitted prior to being deemed as competent for the course.

The workplace project will bring your existing and newly acquired skills and knowledge together and implement this into your current work practices.

Nominal training hours for this qualification equal to 425 hours, which is broken down into 128 hours of supervised instruction and 297 hours of unsupervised activities in the development of a Workplace Operational Plan

We understand that you may lead a high stress and fast-paced life regardless of the industry you are currently in, so this course is delivered and completed by two methods; face to face of one day per week and a self-paced development of a final project throughout the course.

A training and assessment diary may be completed at enrolment or on completion of the face to face delivery phase to ensure that you are staying on track with your course completion. The point being, you complete your much-needed qualification regardless of current circumstance or time restraints from wherever you are in Australia. You may also be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

You will have access to our highly qualified industry experienced Trainer who can provide you with guidance to assist you with completion time frames for each unit to suit your study goals! You also have access to the Trainer throughout your study period to answer any questions you may have or help you overcome any stumbling blocks you may encounter.

Course Structure

The course is presented via a combination of structured tutorials, workshops, case studies, video, practical assignments and workplace application. Individual and group work activities and assessment activities are conducted throughout the course.

All trainers and assessors are recognised industry experts, holding relevant experience and training qualifications. They include security industry specialists, former serving police officers, military personnel and emergency response and medical specialists.

Assessment

To achieve a nationally recognised qualification, participants are required to complete an assessment project, complete course readings and written assessments. Assessment details will be provided with course materials.

Assessment due date – as agreed with the learner and outlined within the training and assessment plan.

A testamur for the qualification BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management will be issued following successful completion of this course and can be used to seek credit transfer towards achieving an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning – RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning is available to persons who have extensive experience in Management, Coordinator or Supervisory space or related fields. If you have over 12 months fulfilling a management role, you should consider the RPL process by undertaking a self-assessment against the competency standards of this qualification.

Assessment is conducted via a detailed portfolio of evidence, workbook, questions and written scenarios to support your claim for RPL. Further information about the RPL process will be explained prior to enrolment with any of our training assessors. Where you and your Impact assessor can identify if there are any requirements for further training, you may choose to do this through the completion of individual units (at an additional fee).

Cancellation policy

Deposits will not be refunded for students who do not turn up for classes or decide at a later date after booking that they do not want to attend. Changes to class times are allowed, but not within 48 hours of the class commencing.
