Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for Corrective Services Officers

Maximise Your Experience with Nationally Recognised Qualifications

We recognise the skill set required by Custodial Officers in your critical role maintaining the safety and security of detainees, prisoners, offenders, prison staff, and the general public. The skills and training you’ve developed while serving in detention facilities or courtrooms are unique and highly transferable, especially to the security industry.

At CORE Training Group, we help you turn these operational skills into Nationally Recognised Qualifications through our streamlined Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process, quickly and efficiently, giving you a cost-effective option to upskill and requalify in an associated industry.

Gap Training – Certificate II Security Operations – From $749.00

The Certificate II in Security Operations is one of the most popular qualifications sought by Custodial Officers and easily obtained by guards with a Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial), through the RPL process.

The Gap Training process is valuable and time efficient, requiring you upload the documents listed below and then attend a one- or two-day gap training session. If you hold a current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate (with more than 12 months currency) you need only attend one day. If you do not hold a current HLTAID011 certificate you will need to attend both days.

The second day is devoted to Crowd Control, to familiarise you with civilian-appropriate restraint techniques.

Great value, as additionally, you will receive our Certificate II Security Operations course materials to prepare yourself for the SAIWA exam, a prerequisite to obtaining your security licence. Officers in Perth can also take ongoing advantage of extra resources to prepare for the SAIWA with us, prior to your exam booking.

Other Qualifications - Why Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that recognises the formal, informal, and non-formal learning you’ve acquired through your work as a Custodial Officer. This means the knowledge and practical experience you already possess can be credited towards qualifications in security, risk analysis, work health and safety, leadership, and more—without having to relearn what you already know.

All our qualifications are based on national standards regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and the Australian Qualifications Framework, making them applicable and respected across various industries.

We appreciate your day-to-day duties have equipped you with essential skills that align closely with those of security officers, including:

  • Security and Threat Management: Managing detainees, maintaining order, and ensuring safety
  • Risk Assessment and Response: Evaluating and mitigating potential threats or emergency situations
  • Work Health and Safety: Understanding and enforcing safety protocols in high-pressure environments
  • Leadership and Communication: Supervising teams, coordinating with colleagues, and maintaining public safety
