Introduction

CORE Group Australia, as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), is committed to fostering safer and stronger communities. Our latest initiative, the Community Warden Program, is designed to empower locals in Fitzroy Crossing with the skills and training needed to make a lasting impact in their community. This program not only provides formal training but also aims to create permanent job roles for participants, ensuring sustainable community development.

Delivering Certificate II in Security Operations

One of the cornerstones of the Community Warden Program is the delivery of the Certificate II in Security Operations to eligible locals in Fitzroy Crossing. This certification opens doors for participants to obtain a security officer licence, providing them with a pathway to secure employment. Currently, our class cohort includes three eligible learners who will be able to obtain their security officer licence. Additionally, five learners, though not eligible for the licence, have volunteered for the training with the goal of becoming Community Wardens in the Fitzroy Crossing area.

Addressing Past Challenges

Historically, Community Wardens have been nominated from within the community without formal training or adequate funding, leading to the program’s failure. CORE Group Australia seeks to change this narrative by formalising the training process and managing the program as a business with operational activities and expectations. Although we operate as a Not-For-Profit organisation, our approach ensures that the program is sustainable and effective.

Proof-of-Concept in Fitzroy Crossing

Our training in Fitzroy Crossing serves as a proof-of-concept for the Community Warden Program. The ultimate goal is to secure funding that will enable us to employ the Wardens in a full-time capacity. The licenced Security Officers, trained under this program, will work within the Fitzroy Crossing community through CORE Security Group, bringing their new skills to real-world application.

Collaboration with Local Stakeholders

A crucial aspect of the program’s success is the collaboration with key local stakeholders. We have held discussions with Fitzroy Crossing Police, the local school, and the Football Club to ensure that the program is well-supported and integrated into the community. These collaborations are outlined in our proposal, which details how these entities will interact and support each other to achieve the program’s goals.

Expanding the Project in Regional Western Australia

Our initial focus is on three key areas: Fitzroy Crossing, Derby, and Halls Creek. These regions have been identified as hot spots that would benefit significantly from the Community Warden Program. Once established, we plan to expand the program to other areas, broadening our impact across the region.

Advocating for Regional Indigenous Traineeships

An essential element of our program is the ongoing dialogue with the Department of Training and Workforce Development. We are proposing that the Certificate II in Security Operations be listed as a Traineeship specifically for Regional Indigenous stakeholders. We believe that this course provides the essential entry-level training required for the Warden program. Already, we have observed significant improvements in the confidence, skills, and knowledge of our current cohort of trainees.

Empowering our communities

CORE Group Australia’s Community Warden Program represents a new approach to community safety and empowerment. By providing formal training, creating sustainable job roles, and fostering strong collaborations with local stakeholders, we are laying the groundwork for a safer and more resilient future for Fitzroy Crossing and beyond.
